Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 15-18Verses 19-21

NO CRIMINAL CAN ESCAPE GOD'S PUNISHMENT
VERSE NO. 15-18
Here the immediate reference is to some of God's blessings, and also there are the warnings:-
``It is He who subdued the earth to you to walk upon its shoulders, and to eat of His sustenance. And to him is the return. (of you all)''
The Arabic, ``ZALUL'' translated here to ``SUBDUED'' literally means ``Tame'', which implies being reduced from native wildness with respect to animals. In other word; it means to have been made tractable and useful to Man.
So has Allah tamed the earth for us, because it has some fourteen kinds of movements. Among such motions three kinds are spinnings; consisting of a combination of roll, and yow, or whirl. There are also its moving around the sun, or going on collectively with the whole solar system in the wide space.
``These movements are made amazingly smooth and without any vibration, quivering or quaking!
If we feel so safe and secure on the shoulders of such a wild and fast moving creature, it is because, God has made it amenable and obedient; so that it does not tresspass the bounds of natural law.
If God willed, He would turn it to a wild beast, or to an obstinate mulish mule, to knock everyone and everything down by a little while quaking:-
``Do you feel secure that He who is in the Heaven, may not order the earth to swallow you, by a continuous quaking?''
