Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
verses 59-60verses no 1-8

THESE TOO WILL HAVE THEIR SHARE OF PUNISHMENT!
VERSE NO.59-60
The above two verses are some sort of a conclusion for the chapter. It implies :-``Now that it is made known that these polytheist and wicked people have deviated from the aim of their creation; they should know that they too, will have a good share of God's punishment like their predecessors who were severely punished.'' Therefore, let them not ask in a foolish mockery to hasten it.
This is to say:-``Those who act like their wicked predecessors, will have a similar fate, and a share of God's punishment. They foolishly ask in mockery for their punishment to be hastened. Woe to them when it comes out of a sudden, the Day when they find no way to escape, and no one to help them. ''
Most probably, the said punishment must be that of this world, and not that in the Hereafter; because the Pagan Arabs asked our Holy Prophet in mockery to hasten the promised punishment, if it was true!
That promised worldly punishment was on condition that they did not return to Islam.
Some of them who insisted upon their wrong ideas, like Abujahl, Abulahab, and their companions were badly punished. Others who submitted after the conquest of Mecca, and came to term with Islam, were all saved.
The Arabic, ``Vail'' translated to, ``WOE'' denotes a well of burning fire, which is in the Hell. But it literally connotes a miserable or
sorrowful state.
