Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 1-3Verses 1-9

A NEW OATH!
VERSES NO. 1-3
Some commentators believe that time refers to the human history and period, which is full of cautionary lessons, shocking and awakening events, and this is the reason why it deserves as a divine oath!
Some others have pointed to a particular period of time like the time of Prophet (SA) or rise of Hazrat Mahdi (AJ) having a special characteristic and magnificence during the human history.
However, it is more appropriate to say that time implies human history and period, because as we have always mentioned, the oaths in Quran suit the subject for which is sworn, and certainly, man's loss is the result of lapse of his lifetime. Or we may say that it refers to the time of Prophet (SA) because the following quadruple program has been revealed at that time.
Man loses his existential capitals willingly or unwillingly. The hours, days, months and years pass quickly, and the immaterial and material powers are spent and his power and ability is decreased.
However, from the Islamic point of view, the world is a commercial market, as we read in a narration from Imam Hadi(AS): World is a market in which some profit and some lose!
Then, the group who follow the quadruple program is excluded from loss.

QUADRUPLE PROGRAM OF PROSPERITY!
Quran has prepared a comprehensive program from saving man from the great loss, where stress is made on four principles.
First principle is faith which forms the foundation of all man's activities because his practical attempts originate from his mental and belief fundamentals, and he is not like the animals which are motivated by their instincts.
In other words, man's deeds are the appearance and realization of his thoughts and ideas. On this account, all divine prophets tried to correct the belief fundamentals of nations first and specially opposed with polytheism which is the source of all evils, vices and discords.
Second principle is the fruit of the fruitful and plentiful tree of faith, that is, righteous deeds. That is right! The righteous deeds are worships, paying alms for God, warfare for God, acquisition of knowledge and science and rather any good deed resulting in perfection of men, teaching morality, proximity to Allah and development of human society in all fields.
Since faith and righteous deed are not continuous unless invitation to truth and knowledge in one hand and invitation to resistance and patience for accomplishment of the invitation on the other hand are accomplished. Pursuant to these principles, reference is made to other two principles guaranteeing implementation of the two basic principles of faith and righteous deed.
Therefore, the third principle is invitation to the truth, that is a general and public invitation towards the truth so that all could distinguish truth from falsehood and do not ignore it ....
The fourth principle is patience, tolerance, resistance and recommending each other to it, because after knowledge and awareness and taking action accordingly, one may face with hindrances and if he loses his patience, he will be never able to restore any right, accomplish a righteous deed or protect his faith.
That is right! It is not possible to restore right in the society unless with a public movement and decision making as well as resistance against the hindrances.
Patience here has a wide scope of meaning including patience for obedience, patience for the incentives of sin, patience for the undesirable events, calamities and losing one's powers and capitals.
Indeed, should Moslems observe these four principles in their individual and social life, their problems, complications and disorders would be solved; their lags would be compensated; their weaknesses and defeats would change to victory; and the evils of evildoers in the world would be ineffective for them.
