Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 1-3Verses 4-8

FOUR EXPRESSIVE OATHS!
VERSES NO.1-3
We find four expressive oaths at the beginning of this sura for indicating a significant concept.
Some believe that Fig and Olive connote the two mountains on which the cities of Damascus and Jerusalem are placed, because many of great divine prophets have risen from these two cities. This commentary is compatible with the third and fourth oaths referring to the sacred territories.
The City of Security refers to Mecca, which was considered as a secure place and divine shrine even at the Age of Ignorance, and no one was authorized to offend the other there.
On the other hand, if we consider the denotation of two terms of Fig and Olive, still it is a meaningful oath, because fig is nutritionally rich and suitable for any age.
The scientists and nutritionists render a considerable importance to olive and its oil, and believe that for being healthy, one shall take this vital elixir..
