Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 1-3verses 4-6

THE SIGNS THAT DEMAND A DEEP THOUGHT
VERSE NO.1-3
This chapter in an expressive section on Monotheism and begins with some twenty attributes of God. Cognition of these attributes will enhance the level of Man's knowledge; and the more a thinker reflects on them, the more facts will reveal to him. The first series of verses in this regard can satisfy well the thirst for knowledge in those who are looking for such matters. The first verse in the above passage refers to the sanctification of God which is done by all the creatures throughout the universe:-
``Whatever is in the heavens and the earth sanctify Allah Who is Exalted in might, all-wise.''
The Arabic, ``SABBAHA'', is a verb in its past tense. The infinitive form, ``TESBIH'' we have translated to, ``SANCTIFICATION''. This noun which has several shades of meaning; literaly means the negation of all sorts of faults and defects. All kinds of wrongs which are not proper according to truth or fact. To make it short; whatever exist in the univese, clearly expresses that there is no defect, no fault or anything wrong of whatever in the clean and pure substance of God; and all the things and creatures, be they animate or inanimate, in their natural tongue, and instinctive language sanctify Allah and celebrate His praise.
The Arabic,``MA'' which is translated to,``Whatever'', includes all the animate and inanimate beings.
Following the two attributes of ``Exalted in might, and All-wise or All-wisdom'', the reference is to God's ownership which its other shade of meaning is His kingdom-a power through which He gives life, and makes to die.
Then another five important attributes of Him have been stated that:-
``He is the first and the Last, the Exterior and the Interior, and He has the knowledge of all things, or He is the All-knowing.''
Being the First and the Last will state God's Eternity-His being is Infinite and limitless. In other word, it says that God's Sacred is not confined in space and time.
He is the Exterior and Outward of all beings, and He is the inward of them too! Nothing is more apparent in the creation than the creator, and nothing is more hidden and covered than Him too, from the point of view, and sense of vision.
God is the only Being who has opposite and contrary attributes. A Man can never be seen and unseen-inside and outside, at the same instant or at the same space or time, but Allah whose being does not depend on space or time,is evident and hidden, far and near, and the first and last, at all times and in all places!
