OCCASION OF REVELATION
In the suburbs of Medina there lived three Jewish tribes namely:- BANI-NAZIR, BANI-GHORAIZEH and BANI-GHAINAGHAA.
When the prophet emigrated to Medina, all the Jews entered into a non-aggression covenant with our prophet; but every now and then they broke their promise, and violated their agreement with him! As an instance of this; once the prophet went to the tribe of BANI-NAZIR with a few of his companions for a discussion. A group of the Jews availed themselves of the unique opportunity, and conspired to assassinate the messenger of God! The prophet was informed of their plot through inspiration, and at once he disappeared from their eyes, and was found in Medina among his companions. Even the prophet's companions who waited for him at the gate of the fortress, did not know that the prophet had returned!
As a matter of fact, the prophet had escaped a certain death by the Jews assassination, and soon arranged to lay a seige to the stronghold of the Jews of BANI-NAZIR.
Then the Jews were beseiged for six days in which no one from their alliance came to give them a hand! Therefore, fear and anxiety filled their hearts. They had a palm grove with many big and corpulent palm trees in front of their fortress that in hazards could be used as shields to protect them. Although it was the custom of the prophet not to cut any tree in his warfare; he took that as an exception, and ordered his men to cut out the palm trees to clear the sight, and clean the battle field.
In the morning of the sixth day of seige, the Jews proposed to negotiate with the prophet about their surrender. Their proposal was to emigrate to Syria or elsewhere on condition to be permitted to take a couple of horse backs of their valuable properties and their goods and cattles. The prophet agreed with their requests, supposing they would leave their homes unarmed. Only two of them converted and stayed there in their house sound and safe as any other Moslims in Medina.
In their sudden departure the Jews of BANI-NAZIR left behind a lot of their properties, estates, assets, farms, goods as spoils. The prophet consulted with the Helpers of Medina, and with their consent, divided all the spoils among the Emigrants who were generally very poor.
THE END OF BANI-NAZIR'S CONSPIRACIES
VERSE NO. 1-5
The theme of this chapter mainly includes the banishment of the treacherous Jewish tribe of Bani-Nazir, who always caused troubles from their nest of intrigues,in the suburbs of Medina. Eventually, they were besieged by the prophet's forces and compelled to leave their strategic position, which they had a few miles to south from Medina.
They relied on their physical means, ignoring the necessary spiritual power that they lacked. They had veterans, well armed forces, reliable strongholds and secret alliance with the hypocrites of Medina and the heathens of Mecca.
When the ill-armed, but faithful forces of the prophet besieged their fortresses for a few days, their allies did not dare to give them a hand, and they found no other way but to leave or ruin their houses and run away. Some emigrated to Syria and some other joined their families in the KHAIBAR, all disarmed.
Their treason and guilt was so that they deserved the worst of punishments; and yet the prophet who was all mercy, spared their lives and permitted them to take their goods and cattels with them!
The Jews were all the sworn allies of Medina's townsfolk under direction of our prophet, but they secretly intrigued with the prophet's enemies in Medina and Mecca.
When the prophet's forces besieged them, they knew how helpless they were without God, but it was too late for penitence:-
``It is He Who discharged the unbelievers of the people of the book, from their homes in their first encounter with Moslims...
