Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
verses 26-30verses 31-36

WE ARE ALL MORTALS, AND YOU, THE ONLY ETERNAL
VERSE NO. 26-30
``All those who live on the earth, be they Man or Jinn, are mortal and only the Substance of God is Eternal.''
Here the reference is to another great bounty of God, and that is our mortality and God's Eternity.
One may wonder how mortality can be counted among the bounties and Grace of God!?
As far as our being is dependent on Him who is Eternal our morality does mean reducing to nothingness. This is because, so long as a cause will exist, its effect too will exist and the cause will not lose its effect. Therefore, that which we call it death is not non-existance. Our mortality is only a gateway opened to another kind of our existence, or our being changed to another form or kind of being. Not only our soul and essence will exist, even the elements of our body will remain to be used in another form and shape.
Things here are all transitory and are by nature bound to pass over, but our Essence or soul,of whatever is it made, will continue to remain and take new forms of life.
In these verses, Man and Jinn are both addressed for being wise and intellectual beings.
The Arabic pronoun, ``MAN=WHO'' implies a creature having wisdom and intelligence.
The Arabic ``VAJH'', literally denotes to ``FACE'' but it has other famous connotations too, such as; personality, glory, majesty, inner being, Essence or substance.
We have chosen for our translation the meaning ``SUBSTANCE''. To make it short, Vajh implies all the beautiful names and attributes that truely are ascribed to our Lord, Allah.
Then there is the verse:-
``All those who are in the heavens and the earth beseech Him. And everyday He is busy in some sort of an action.''
Of His general actions we may say that:-
He brings the day and the night alternatively. He extracts life from death and death from life; Cures the sick and makes the weak powerful and abases the honoured. He makes the poor rich and wealthy. The above actions are all routines, and are daily or frequently pursued actions. What the above verse implies is that Allah creates something entirely new; or changes a created matter or thing to another form or state:-
``Everyday, Allah is in some sort of a new action.
