verse 12verse 13

THE TERMS OF ALLEGIANCE FOR WOMEN
VERSE NO. 12
The above verse was revealed after the conquest of Mecca. Then the prophet sat upon the top of a hill called, ``SAFAA'' and men came to him and took the oath of allegiance and fealty. After that, the woman came for that purpose; that in the doctrine of Islam, men and women are equally responsible.
The above verse was revealed to settle the terms on which women should pledge themselves as follows:-
1-To worship no one and nothing except Allah.
2-Not to steal.
3-Not to commit adultery.
4-Commit not infanticide.
5-Forge not slander or scandle.
6-Obey the prophet in reasonable and just orders.
For the women to pledge allegiance to the prophet, a flat wash-tub was brought on filled with water. The Messenger of God put his hand in that tub, and the woman too put their hands in the same vessel and swore the oath of allegiance.
A remarkable point in the above terms of allegiance is that of the item No. 6:-``To obey the prophet in reasonable and just orders.(MAAROOF)''
This might be a good example for all the orders that are issued by Islamic rulers and leaders. That command is valid to be obeyed, which is reasonable and just. This is because the religion of Islam is a religion of wisdom, reason and justice.
