THE MOON WAS SPLIT
VERSE NO.1-3
In the first of the above verses, the immediate reference is to two great natural incidents:-
The first one is the approach of Resurrection and the Day of Doom, when the greatest of changes in the creation of this material world will happen. Then a new era of life will begin in a newly created world the extent of which is beyond our understandings.
The second incident that is referred to, is one of the many great miracles of our prophet, through which he showed his companions and oppositions, the infinite power of his Lord God whose unity he preached.
The miracle was that, he split the moon with the permission of God, who has created the moon. By the split of the moon he proved that, it is easy for God to metamorphose the solar system and all the planets at His will, changing them into a different form, structure, or even substance.
A group of his oppositions came to our prophet and said:-``If what you claim is true, then split the moon in two pieces for us, that we may make sure that you are truthful. If you do it, we will definitely believe you in your message and mission.''
It was then a full moon of fourteenth, when our prophet prayed to God to permit him to split the moon. God answered the prayer of His Messenger, and the moon was split, but what was the reaction of those who asked for it? They unjustly said:
``This is the continuance of your amazing soeceries!'' Then they belied the signs of their Lord God and followed their caprices!
The split of the moon is one of the sure many miracles of our prophet Mohammad(SA), which has been related by successive witnesses; and there is no doubt in it. We believe more than that.
Unfortunately, some of the writers who are weak in their faith, as well as knowledge,have tried to justify the wonderful miracle of the moon split theoretically by their poor reasoning and lack of logic.
Some of them have said that the moon once appeared cleft asunder in the valley of Mecca within the sight of the prophet, his companions and a group of the unbelievers.
Some other have said that, the verb in past tense indicates future in the phrase:``THE MOON WAS SPLIT''. Therefore, cleaving asunder of the moon will in the future be a sign of the Resurrection Day!!
A group too, has taken the phrase to be metaphorical!! Yet no one has denied the happening of the moon split. But all of them are wrong and fallen far from truth. Just as Moses split the sea in two huge parts, and made a way of escape for his followers, our prophet split the moon in two pieces with the permission of God and nothing more.
