Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 4-7Verses 8-18

A DAY 50 THOUSAND YEARS LONG.
VERSE NO. 4-7
The arguments return to the discourse of Dooms Day,and the punishments in the life to come.
Evidently, the ascension mentioned in the abover verse (No. 4) is spiritual, and not physical. Here, the relativity of time and space, has been alluded to; and also in many other places in QurÌn,such as relating the case of the seven Sleepers, who slept for more than three centuries, but took it for a couple of hours when they woke up. Thus, the duration and measure of a day differs for each planet that revolves in its orbit in the solar system. So, the measure of time in our phisical life may take fifty thousands of years, whereas in the spiritual life, it takes less than a day.
By SPIRIT, in the above verse, ROOHOL AMIN is meant, who is the Arch angel of God, named GABRIEL. The Arabic ROOH has other shades of meaning too, like Man's Soul. A pretty well patience is one without complaint, and with being content with the ordering of God. It arises from a pure faith and severe trust in God.
