Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 51-52Verses 1-8

THEY WANT TO DESTROY YOU,BUT THEY CAN'T
VERSE NO. 51-52
The unbelievers charged the Messenger of God with being mad, and possessed by evil spirits!
The Arabic ``ZALGHA-YOZLUGH'' translated to ``KNOWLEDGE'', literally means to stumble or trip in walking; or to stagger because of false step:-
``And the unbelievers are well nigh to knock you down by their eyes.''
Some people believe that in the eyes of Man, there is a mysterious magnetic power by which works can be done. As an instance, they may make someone sick or even perish him by a gaze, fixed on him! Hypnotism is another effect of their gaze. Whatever the object, the verse reveals a strange contrast with regards to the prophet's oppositions and enemies. In one hand, they were amazed by the miraculous verses of QurÌn, which are saturated with reason, wisdom, meanings and eloquence.
On the other hand, they accused him of being mad and possessed! How can a mad man who is void of knowledge, compose such unique verses that have endured for centuries, as the best topic of conversations on the tip of the tongue of all ages.
As a matter of fact, the Man of God is a touchstone to try the qualities of gold and gild. The evil people who are filled with jealousy, mistrust, suspicion and resentment, when they look at successful men in a different way, and are well nigh to cast him down or eat him up with their gazes.
So was the case with Mohammad MostafÌ our prophet, particularly when he was rehearsing the verses of the inspiration so eloquently!
A man who had never learned the art of reading or writing; who was brought up among a people who were utterly uneducated; in a country of illiteracy and void of culture and civilization; in an age of barbarism, he was reciting verses that are full of wisdom, facts, sagacity and meanings. These verses after an old age of 15 centuries, are still new, fresh and alive subjects of consideration and thought!
The devilish audience who failed to harm the prophet by struggle, wished to eat him by their eyes; or knock him down! But the prophet was always under the care and protection of the Lord God who controls the whole universe.
When all their evil plans and tricks failed, they accused him of being mad,or possessed by evil spirits and Jinns! How childish they thought?! The prophet, the Arch peophet, continued unmoved from his position of stability and firmness, and his verses too remained after him; as beams of light on top of everything.
