Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verse 20Verses 1-10

RECITE QURAN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
VERSE NO. 20
The primeval conditions of Islam, called for the Moslims to make up themselves; and that had to be done by learning Quran and to worship Allah devoutly.
Watch or clock was not invented yet, and time keeping for the prayers was very difficult to keep on precisely. Therefore, Allah mitigated the severity of the religious tasks and worship:-
``Allah knows that you can never calculate the precise time of prayer, so He turned to you in Mercy. (FORGAVE YOU AND MITIGATED)
The prophet and a group of his disciples had rejected most of their night sleep and gave up to prayer. This could affect their health and other important duties.
Elsewhere, in the QurÌn-S20:1- the prophet has addressed:-
``TA-HA! We have not sent down the QurÌn to you in order to put you in hardship.''
The length of day and night varies every day of the solar year, and it is not easy to determine precisely half or a fraction of the night. But God's worship can be done in many ways. Therefore, our time of devotion must not be against our health, travel or the performance of other obligatory duties.
We have to know that God will not charge a person with duties which are beyond his or her power of performance and therefore, the night prayer is strictly enjoined, but it is not made incumbent upon Moslims to perform.
