PEOPLE OF BOOK AND IDOLATERS BEFORE APPEARANCE OF ISLAM
VERSES NO.1-5
We know that the People of Book were expecting appearance of such religion, and even the Arab idolaters who assumed themselves more informed than them, agreed with them in this case. However, after realization of their desire, they diverted and joined the opponents.
The People of Book and idolaters are blamed here for dissenting from the new religion. Some believed and some disbelieved in it,while the new religion just enjoined them to worship God, return to monotheism from polytheism, pray and pay Zikat.
The principles of monotheism, prayer (attention to the creator) and Zikat (attention to the creature) are among the common and fixed principles of all religions. Rather, we can say that these principles exist in man's nature.
In one hand, man's fate depends on monotheism, and on the other hand, his nature invites him to pay gratitude to the benefactor and knowing him, and his social spirit calls him to help and support the needy.
