Verses 1-8Verses 9-12

THE UNRULY PUNISHMENT
VERSE NO. 1-8
This chapter begins with the great incident of Resurrection Day with a new title of,``INEVITABLE''. Almost all the commentators have understood the Arabic word, ``ALHAGHEH'' to imply Resurrection Day-a day that will certainly come to pass.
It may also imply torments that afflict the sinners at once, and out of a sudden! If we take this for the meaning of ``ALHAGHEH'', it will imply:-
``Beware lest God's punishment may afflict you out of a sudden.''
Thamud were a people who lived in a mountainous region between Syria and HEJAZ. Hazrat Salih was sent to warn them in the position of the Messenger of God. But they never believed him and even contended against him. Then in a few minutes of one darknight, a severe thunderbolt stroke them in their houses and cast them dead.
So was the case with people of Ad, who lived in Yemen. They had tall, strong bodies and fruitful gardens and lived in utmost welfare. Their prophet, Hood, preached them and warned them, but their prosperity, and arrogance spoiled them by turning them to a very unjust people.
Therefore, God destroyed them by a violent noisy and cold wind that He let loose on them for a whole week, and at last turned them to something like hollow decayed trunks of palm-trees!
