JUDGEMENT BETWEEN FOE AND FRIEND

      This implies that Muslim judges, have the right and permission, to judge about non-Muslim crimes with certain conditions; the detail of which will be given in due time and commenting the related verses.

      The verse commences with; `O MESSENGER' addressing the prophet directly; and only twice in the Quran, we can see such a commencement. It may imply the importance of the subject and the existing apprehension which has caused the Lord to comfort and encourage His apostle.

      The prophet suffered a lot of physical and spiritual troubles, and disturbances from the Jews and the hypocrites who caused indeed a great grief to him:-

      ``Saying with their mouths we believe, and denying that in their hearts - Vying with one another in unbelief - Being keen listeners and spies, and catching ambiguous words merely for belying and rejecting the tenets and principles - Perverting the words of God to misinterpret, and changing them from their right time and proper position to deduce the meanings that they wanted.''

      All these tricks and mischievous acts were causes of grief for the Messenger of God who persevered with patience:-

      ``O, Messenger! Let them not grieve you who vie with one another in unbelief; of those who say with their mouths we believe, and their hearts believe not.''

      Before coming to the prophet for judgement, the Jews had said to themselves:-``If you are given this, then take it, and if you are not given this, then beware.'' In other word if lashing is decreed by the prophet, admit his judgement, but if the order is to stone the adulterer, then beware and avoid it. All these are evidences that these people are entirely lost, and Allah intends not to purify their hearts until they join their due punishment in Hell.
