THE GREAT APPOINTMENT (VERSE NO. 142)

The argument is now about one of the most important events that occured in the life of Moses after the pass over. This was when Moses was invited by God, and he went up the mountain to meet with his Lord. There he asked to see God physically, and Allah proved to him actually, that no one can ever see the Lord with his sense of sight. In his visit Moses got the tablets on which was engraved the ten Commandments. When Moses returned to his people with a delay of 10 days, he found most of his people worshipping the calf, and his brother Aaron deserted!

When Moses left his people for the important meeting with God, he introduced his brother Aaron as his successor to take his place among the believers. He said to Aaron:

``Take my place among the people, and correct them and follow not the way of corruptores.''

He said so to his brother because he knew that the Israelites were so much liable to be tempted by the Satans of all kinds. Moses warned his brother, in particular, of the corruptor and calf- makers, such as Samaritan and his intimates and co-operators.

Moses said that his absence from among them will be 30 days long, but Allah lengthened the period of the appointment up to 40 nights in order to test and try the Israelite converts.
