VERSE NO. 70Verses 72-74

VERSE NO. 71

Due to their vanity and arrogance, they blinded and closed their eyes on the signs of God, and turned a deaf ear towards Allah's Message, thinking that no trial or punishment would afflict them for being superiors in race, or the elect of God as they say! But it proved not so as they supposed and were suddenly defeated byNEBUCHADNEZZAR (597 B.C.) and were afflicted by the disaster of more than half a century of Babylonian Captivity!

Then God turned to them in mercy, and once again they stood on their own feet, but took no lesson of their painful past, and once again closed their eyes and ears on the signs and messages of Allah, and were thrown into a confused defeat and captivity of the Persians!

The ending of the verse is very remarkable, saying God is not heedless of His servants and sees whatever they do!
