Verse 67CAUSE OF THE REVELATION

ELECTION OF SUCCESSOR ENDS THE MISSION.

VERSE NO. 67

This verse has a special tone and style and is different from the verses before and after it. The verse addresses the prophet only, and there are only two of such cases in the whole Book. It begins with:- ``O, Messenger! Do convey!= BALLEGH''

The Arabic verb, `ABLEGH' that is in imperative mood, means `CONVEY, PROCLAIM, ANNOUNCE', and when used in the form of, `BALLEGH' it becomes an expressive command, and puts high emphasis upon the act of conveying.

In the second phrase of the verse there is a severe warning to the Messenger, that if you don't convey this very message, in the sight of God, it is as if you have not conveyed all His message. In other word, this very message that now is issued, is equal in importance, to all the Messages that has so far been given to you to convey to My servants!

The third phrase of the verse implies that the prophet has some anxiety and mysterious fear in announcing the Message to people! God gives His Messenger the necessary confidence and assurance, that don't be anxious and fear no one, because:-

``Allah will protect you from the hazards of people.'' And finally the verse threatens the opposing group of people against the Message, considering them as the unbelievers whom God will not guide.

Now owing to the fact that the said verse has been revealed at the near end of the prophet's life, what could the message of that importance and with so much care and express be? What was the prophet to announce publicly with so much emphasis?

Was it about Monotheism and Polytheism, and the idols and idolatry? Of course not, because that matter had been solved years before, and by then all the idols had been smashed.

Was it any important law or religious commandment? This also could not be it, because the perfection of the religion of Islam, had already been announced in the S5: 3 and was given public notice.

Could it be the problem of the people of the book or the hypocrittes that caused so much trouble and agitation? But this was also brilliantly solved a few years past, and now Islam had no problem with such oppositions as the Jews, Christians or hypocrites. Now the Arabian Peninsula had entirely submitted and were all Muslims.

What else could such an important matter be except the election of a truthful leading successor to the prophet? A truthful, aware, and learned Godly believer who could lead and protect the ever increasing future Muslims; and who could introduce Divine Safe- guards against fraud and Devils that would come in the shapes of men to seduce the new converts and the nominal Muslims.

We may now refer to the various traditions narrated by more than one hundred and ten of the nearest companions of the prophet, all narrated by Sonni and Shiite literates, commentators, and historians, and all collected and compiled by Allahmmeh Amini in his famous voluminous book; `ALGHADIR'
