WRONG INSISTENCE

VERSES NO. 56 - 58

      The tone and theme of these verses are as if, the heathens have asked the prophet to accept at least some of their opinions about idolaters, so that they too, could mutually accept the prophet's religion. The prophet is therefore instructed to answer them saying:

      ``I am forbidden to worship those whom you call upon besides the true God.'' So, I am not going to follow your caprices and accept your unreasonable opinions. Indeed there is no least of reason or logic in worshipping an idel, which is no more than a piece of stone or other materials, while I am with evidence and have received a light from my Lord. I will follow this manifest light although you belie it.

      Throughout the history of the prophets, the heathens have frequently said by irony and scorn:

      ``If there is a God as you believe, why does He not give an end to the blasphemers and unbelievers, once and for all?!''

      And the prophet's answer was:

      ``It is not in our power or duty to punish you sinners and rejectors of faith. The command for such a punishment which you mockingly make haste for it, rests in the hands of God. He is the only one to decide, and He is the best of the deciders.''

      That which the deniers of God with laughter and mockery wanted the apostles to bring upon them, was indeed none of their business or prophetic concern. They only have to convey God's Messages to His servants, and the rest lays in the God's care to decide, therefore the prophet said to them:

      ``If the matters was between me and you, It would have been settled up so far;''but all our mutual affairs in particular, and all the affairs in general, rest in God to decide upon, Who is the best of deciders.
