The Arabic `SADAGHE' is a kind of alm, which is given to the poor and needy for the sake of God, and it differs from ZAKAT which is the regular obligatory alms- tax in an organized Muslim community; or the, `KHOMS' which is one fifth of the spoils of Sacred Wars. It is also a word of wide mental grasp that may mean anything offered to please God. It is cited in SAHIH- BOKHARI and also in DORR- AL- MANTHUR that when the prophet was dividing the alms among the poor and needy, a man from the tribe ofBANU- TAMIM, whose name was, `ZUL KHO ISAR' subjected the prophet to obloquy and calumny, for his strictness to principles; and said aloud: ``O, Messenger of God! Do justice in your division!'' The prophet answered him: ``Woe is you! If I do not do justice, who then does that?'' OMMAR heard that rude words, and said to the prophet: ``O, Messenger of God! Give me leave to behead him.'' The prophet said to OMMAR: ``Leave him alone. He has a group of followers that you will consider your prayers and fastings very little compared to theirs, and yet they run out of the religion of God, as an arrow runs out of the bow.'' Such a people are never content with their rights and with what they really deserve. They want more and ask for more. Right and justice means nothing to them. They always expect more than what they deserve, and if not given them, they raise their voices in objection, obloquy and slander! O, Lord! Your bounties are beyond what can be announced. Do not restrain them from us, and let us always be content with our right and with what we deserve it. THE IRRATIONAL SELFISH (VERSES NO. 58 - 59)
