Verses 65-66Verse 67

VERSES NO. 65 & 66

By using some principles of training, a green lamp is lighted here to encourage and attract the secular minded Jews and Christians towards their spiritual origin, saying:-

Had the people of the Book believed and guarded themselves against evil, We would have admitted them to Paradise and the Gardens of Bliss.''

Then to inform them that the piety and God fearing not only affects our spiritual life, but our physical life too, can be splendid and with abundance and affluence, if we adhere to our Lord's Message and Messenger, and follow their Divine Instruction; the verse continues:-

``Had they upheld the Bible and the Gospel; and whatever has been sent down to them from their Lord, they would have eaten from above them, and from beneath their feet; which may refer to heavenly or spiritual satisfactions as well as all earthly bounties and enjoyment.''

By upholding the Scriptures; acting according to their instructions and commandments is wanted.

In fact the verse lays a stress upon the observance of Divine orders and instruction, that will certainly result in prosperity in this material world, and in salvation of the life to come after death. In other word, the aim of Divine Message is not only to lead man to felicity after death, but also to provide him with welfare and happiness in his present material life.

If we cast a look upon the immense amount of wealth which is wasted or expended nowadays for nothing, or for the annihilation of mankind, while it could be used in the way of welfare and prosperity; we could better understand the hazards of industrial faithlessness. The amount of wealth, manpower, thought, and endeavour which is expended in the way of ruining and destruction, equals, or is sometimes more, than that which is expended in the way of construction and welfare!

The ending of the verse implies an exception that all the Jews and Christians are not so bad, and they do have among them a group of moderate people who believe in God and in a Day of Judgement and Accounts; and of course the records of these are apart from that of the others.
