IMPROPER QUESTIONS

VERSES NO. 101-102

Without any doubt, question is the key to understanding, and Quran seriously enjoins people to ask and learn. But here too, there are exceptions, as there are exceptions in any other affair.

Many secrets are hidden to us, through the high wisdom of God. As an instance, could we know our future, and in particular, the time and place and the kind of our death, we could have lost our happiness, and sometimes could have been miserable indeed. A physician may sometimes conceal from his patient what sort of disease he has, and there is no blame on that wise doctor for his concealment and secrecy.

The verse also notifies that when Quran is being sent down, and we ask; our questions would be made plain for us.

That is to say; God's Message, as far as necessary, is plain and open to us, but there are also things too deep for us to understand. In such case we may reverently ask for its meaning - In the life time of the prophet, he himself would explain and disclose the meaning of the ambiguous words and phrases. In our life time, now there are so many learned and well versed in Quran, who may remove our doubts of obscurity, if we ask them to. But still there are questions and problems, that it is no good for us to know them, and we better insist not upon knowing; for the matter being beyond our own capacity of understanding, or if the time and occasion of the question be improper.
