Verse 137Verses 138-139

VERSE NO. 137

Here the Holy Book points to another shameful crime of the polytheists: They supposed that their idols needed human sacrifices. Such sacrifices were adorned and made alluring as a sacred rite by their priests and custodians of their idols temples; so that some of the idolaters were proud of having their children sacrificed for the pleasure of the idols! And the polytheistical society and customs of the pagans respected and valued such dreadful acts of the parents!

``And so their partners adorned for most of the polytheists, the killing of their children!''

Such customs barred them from reaching a true knowledge of truth, and getting access to the straight way of Allah which complied with their nature of creation. It did nothing for them save destroying those idolaters who practised it. These awful rites turned their religion to a confused bundle of superstitions:

And such sacrifices of human beings ruined them and confused them in their religion.''

The ending of the verse implies that they are so wrong, and they insist to be so, and have to wait for the consequences of their evil deeds, so:

``Leave them alone with their forgeries.''
