VEHEMENCE AGAINST TREACHERY (VERSES NO. 55 - 59)

These verses refer to the Jews of Medina, and in particular to those of the clan ofBANU QURAISA, who frequently made covenant with the prophet, to observe the limits of the new Divine Movements; but they repeatedly broke their treaty, and betrayed! An instance of their betrayal was in the battle of Moat.

Firstly they are declared to be the worst and the vilest among the moving creatures and beasts:

``The vilest of the moving creatures in the sight of Allah are those faithless, who will not believe at all.''

They are the beasts who have taken the shape and form of man, but are not man! They do have abilites, but they do not make use of their faculties of hearing, speaking, and understanding. On contrary, they misuse their physical power, and natural aptitude, by disbelief.

The immediate occasion of the verses might have been the repeated treachery of the said Jews; but the general lesson that always should be taken is that: treachery in war differs from treachery in peace. Treachery and betrayal in war may endanger many lives, and therefore it should be frustrated in the seed and made unable to be successful.

Finally the verses warn Muslims to be on guard and on call of treacheries of any group; but meanwhile they are wanted to not ignore their tenets and Divine Principle of being just and fair to all. A Muslim should respect his promise, and observe the covenant he makes. When a treaty is broken, or a compact violated, it should be denounced so that the faithful party might have at least a chance to handle the matter on equal term, and be not attacked unaware.
