Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 34-35Verses 36-37

These verses are still the continuation of the Believer's speech addressing the courtiers of Pharaoh.

At first the believer of the court gave a brief of general religious tradition, and referred to the mission of Joseph in Egypt whose various stages of life, were full of signs and miracles. That which the jealous brothers didِthe way he was rescued from the wellِHow he was enslaved and sold for a very low priceِhow did his Lord lodged him in the house of AZIZ, the Prime Minister of EgyptِThe tender love of Zolaikhahِfor him and the prisonِAnd eventually his becoming the absolute ruler of Egypt; all the incidents were full of signs and precious lessons to be taken:

And Joseph was sent to you with many clear signs and evidences, but you were always in doubt about his mission, until he died, and you said:- ``God will never rise a Messenger after him.''

The interval between Moses and Joseph was no more than a few centuries, which is not too long a period for a learned nation like Egyptians, so as to be forgotten. The main problem of the Egyptians was their sinful and sealed hearts, in which the Grace and Guidance of God would not penetrate.

At the end of his speech, the Believer accuses his audience of being always doubtful and transgressors, who ignorantly dispute about the signs of God without having any authority at all. Thus they incurred the wrath of Allah, and the anger of believers! Their obstinacy drew a veil upon their eyes and hindered them from seeing the truth.

The Believer's reasoning was effective, and delayed murdering Moses; and the time of respite that was created, was enough for Moses to prepare himself for the victory that Allah had promised him a victory in which Pharaoh's hosts and kingdom perished.
