Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 39-42Verses 43-45

Once again we read here that; it is God who increases or decreases the sustenance of His servants, and such variations are according to His universal plan in the creation, and all His plans are based on wisdom, mercy, and justice.

As Hazrat Imam Ali has said:- ``There are two kinds of sustenances for man. A kind of sustenance that seeks man, and another kind of sustenances that man has to seek. Instances of these two can be, sunshine and food.''

The first verse above (NO.39), implies that our Lord is the best of Sustainers, and if we give some of our wealth in charity, He will fill up the vacancy that has been made by the sum given in charity.

God is the best of Sustainers because He knows best to whom should he give, and of whom should He take.

He may grant something through asking and prayer; and he may also give without asking Him to give, that He is aware of all conditions, and He has the power and ability of doing whatever He wants.

As to those things that satisfy our real needs, and will advance our inner development, God gives us in the best of scales.

As to the other good things of this life, which we usually have to work for getting them; if there are some inequalities in the distribution of it, we should have no doubt that God is not miserly, and that He distributes everything with a wise and merciful purpose, according to His universal plan; which is the most right of plans to be followed.

In the next verse (NO.40), the immediate reference is to the worship of the angels. Such objects of worships are mere names to the worshippers. They know nothing about the worshipped, and have mixed and mingled everything physical or spiritual, by following their own fancies, and Satanic Temptations:-

``The angels are mentioned here from among all the false deities, because they are the noblest of them all.''

The Arab idolaters reckoned their wooden or stone idols to be the symbols of prophets, saints, and holy spirits and etc.

It is narrated that, ``AMR-IBN-LOHAY'' an Arab merchant travelled to Syria, and from there he brought an idol with him for the first time. The Syrian idolaters had told him that, it was the symbol of some sacred soul and when worshipped, it would intercede with Allah, on behalf of its worshippers, and it would rain well, and prevent calamities, and remove dearth and famine.

Thus Arabs began to worship idols, and it prolonged up to the Advent of Mohammad (SA).

Any how the Arabs who were the followers of ABRAHAM in Monotheism, became polytheists and worshippers of idols and false gods:-

``The Day when He gathers them all together, and then He will say to the angels:- ``Were these worshipping you?'' They will say; glory to you! You are our beloved master apart from themِThey were rather worshipping Jinn. Most of them were believers in them.''

The pagan Arabs used to call the angels the daughters of God, but in fact their real object of worships were not the angels but the dark and hidden forces of evil in their fancies. Some of them were of opinion that Jinns could do something for them in their needs and emergency cases. Yet the Jinns are living in a much more inferior capacity than Man, and they have not such a power to give us a hand or help in our needs.

Men sometimes set their hopes and fears on false things, and forget Allah which is the only reality and truth. So the false gods and fetishes have no power of any kind to help or to harm.
