Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 56-59Verses 60-63

``Those who dispute over the signs of Allah without any authority...''

By dispute here a verbal controversy to deny the truth, or the validity of some fact and figure, is meant. It is a wrangling, and not a logical discussion to know something true.

By the signs of God the miracles, the Divine verses, and particularly Resurrection Day are meant. The phrase; ``Without authority'' will back up this idea.

The verse (NO.56) implies that the source of such disputes is nothing but vanity and pride. The aim of such disputers is self-glory and show, but the truth will always vanquish falsehood.

The next verse (NO.57) is a reasoning to prove the ResurrectionِHe who has created the heavens and the earth, with all the grandeur, wonders, and variety of creatures that are therein, must have it very easy to renew their creation. Why should we doubt?

The heavens and earth contain millions of kinds of creatures that each of them is no less wonderful than the creation of Man. There are uncountable numbers of amazing suns, moons, and stars, among the celestial bodies. Man's position here is not greater than a droplet in a sea, although he thinks too much of himself.

Then there is a clear comparison of the blind man with a seeing one. This is somehow similar to a faithful and faithless person in the comparison. As the blind and the seeing are not equal, so are those who have believed and done righteous deeds are not equal with evil doers.

The blind in this similitude is the ignorant who has deliberately covered his eyes with a black veil of pride and arrogance, and the cover prevents him to see the beauties of truth.

A faithful man who proves his faith with his righteous deeds, has a good sight and insight, and sees things in their true perspective. But the faithless evil doer, behaves like a blind man who is surrounded by the light of God, while he sees nothing, and eventually falls in the pit.
