Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 17-20Verses 21-25

David was one of the great Israelite apostles with an extensive dominion and rulership. In many verses of Qurän, Allah has admired him. In this passage of Qurän we read an episode of his long story.

God gave David the art of singing as sweet as the birds, and therefore the mountains as well as the birds who lived there sang the praise of God in unison with him. This is a sign that all nature sing in unison, to celebrate the praise of God, and glorify him, if we could only know.

Turning to God in Prayer and Praise, is far better than any worldly power and wisdom if man and other creatures could know. David had obtained a high wisdom and a sound judgement by means of worshipping God:-

``Be patient on what they say, and remember our servant David who was strong and patient.''

The Arabics, ``AID'' means strong and powerful. David was strong in body, as well as in spirit. He was exceptionally a very strong man. He killed Goliath the greatest Palestine hero, with a slingshot when he was a boy in his teenages.

This reminds the translator, of Hazrat Imam Ali (AS) who in the battle of moat grappled with AMR-IBN-ABDOWOD, the greatest Arab warrior, and slayed him. Ali was then in his late teenages too. To that effect our prophet said:- ``The stroke of Ali in the battle of Moat equals in value to the worship of Man and Jinn up to the Resurrection Day.'' The young Imam Ali in that dangerous battle, relied upon Allah, and won through in a hand in hand fighting with the Giant, and for that wonderful victory he was nicknamed by Moslems; ``THE LION OF GOD''.

In the above passage ten qualifications have been attributed to David, namely:-

      1ِHe was patient.

2ِHe was a sincer servant of God.

      3ِHe was strong and powerful.

4ِHe was returning to God frequently.

5ِMountains shared him in his prayer.

6ِBirds celebrated the praise of God in unison with him.

      7ِBirds flocked together around him.

8ِGod gave him a wide and important kingdom.

9ِGod gave him a high wisdom.

10ِGod gave him a sound and just judgement.
