Verse 52Verses 53-54

Here is another commandment with regards to the prophet's wives, that no more women were lawful to him to marry, nor was he allowed to change a wife even if her beauty amazed him, except those which he could own from among the slave girls.

The prophet in his amazingly high progress was under the pressure of the important tribes to marry a women from them, which could solve many social and political problems for a man in his position. But according to the above verse he could not even divorce one of his wives to take a replacement. This was while most of his wives were very old, and he married them as widows. Among his wives, only Aisha was a virgin when he married her.

Any how, there was a red line in the way of his marriage, which he could not pass that. Therefore, after the above revelation which was in A.H.7, the prophet took no new wives, except Mary who was a slave girl, sent to him as a present by the king of Egypt. She gave birth to IBRAHIM who died a child.

The phrase, ``Even if their beauty surprises you'' implies that if a Moslem intends to marry a woman there is no blame on him to look her over, and search for her beauties.
