Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verse 39Verse 40

Mohammad (SA) is again addressed here in the argument about the taboos of adopted sons, and his marriage with ZAINAB. The verse implies that; the apostles before you were the brave conveyors of God's Message, and in the performing their duties they were afraid of no one except God.

Why should you then pay that much heed to people when you are to violate a taboo that has wrongly been established in the Pagan Era, and eliminating such superstitious customs with regards to adopted sons!?

Our prophet practically proved that throughout his life, he feared no one other than God. In the case of violating the pagan's custom about their adopted son, he was afraid that some of the new converts, in whose hearts faith had not settled yet; to waver and recant. As a matter of fact such kind of a fear is the very fear of God, and not of anybody else.
