The polytheists who did not believe in the resurrection, said that they were more important in creation than any other creatures, even the angels and heaven and earth. Here they are notified that they had been created from a lowly origin, such as a piece of sticky clay. It is therefore the artistry and workmanship of the All-knowing Creator that makes the worthless dust so valuable as they think. Here the prophet has been instructed to ask the non-believing evil doers, who deny God's control over everything, and who scoff at miraclesِasking if they are more important and difficult to be created, than the amazing variety of creation that have no limit. Why should they forget then their own lowly origin, which was nothing more than some sticky clay?

      The prophet with his pure and plain heart saw the affairs very simple, whereas the non-believers saw it very complex and impossible for a dead to be raised up again. He therefore wondered and they ridiculed! The cause of such evil deeds and denials was not ignorance and lack of knowledge. It rather was due to their obstinacy, and unreasonable adherence to false opinion, and selfishness.

      Here the charges against them comprise of taking the signs and miracles of God for mockery - paying no heed to admonitions and warnings - rejecting all sorts of God's revelations - and giving unjust names such as magic, sorcery, and poetry, to the clear signs of God.
