Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 19-23Verses 24-26

Here are four examples to show the contrast between the believers and the non-believers. In the first example the believer is similar to a man who has eyes and he can see, but the non-believer is similar to a blind man. Then the instance is that of light and darkness, which act as medium for sight and blindness, which are causes of leading and misleading.

So, the believers are men of sight. They live in the light of knowledge and wisdom; where as the unbelievers are blind and live in the darknesses, and all the time they are in trouble of the hot-winds of adverse incidents that are the consequences of their evil deeds. If they live, their life is none the better than their death, because they are inert, and in a way to perish by damnation. In other word they are spiritually dead and buried in their grave, which is their physical body. Therefore no Divine Teacher can teach those non-believers whose bodies have been turned to graves. How can you compel them to accept the Truth, or listen to the word of God?

In the sight of Qurän, the border of two countries, or the margin of two nations, are not the important factors that may separate two people from one another.

According to the Glorious Qurän, people are of two main groupsِthe believers and the unbelievers. One of the two groups are always seeking more light, and the second group plunge into the ocean of darkness the depth of which is unknown.

Faith is some sort of an insight and inner discernment, and a power to select or distinguish the excellent, or the true. The faithless will emit darkness from all its points! His searching mind circulates around his lusts and material vain desires, and caprices. He is submerged in his passions and emotions.

As to the phrase, ``YOU CANNOT MAKE TO HEAR THOSE WHO ARE IN GRAVESِNO:22'' we may say:-

Without any doubt, and with a fact supported by many verses and traditions, the deads live in the Intermediate World (BARZAKH), and they can hear our call and understand it, but they are not allowed to have any kind of contact, and communications with us; except by God's permission. Therefore in the above phrase, ``That you cannot make to hear those who are in graves'', by the way of a metaphor, the word grave, connotes the body of a non-believer.
