Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 71-83Verses 84-88

This passage explains the dispute on the creation of Man among the higher creatures.

These verses are to make known to Man that, he is of a high value, and should not forget his noble position in creation, and lower not his own price. He must seriously avoid to become a play-toy in the hands of devils and demons, or his own caprices. Allah has created Man with his own hand of power, and is a first hand creature of God's especial artistry and skill:-

``Bring to mind when Allah said to the angels:- ``I am going to create a kind of Man from clay. So, when I fashioned him and breathed in him of my Spirit prostrate yourselves for him.''

In this passage the first stages of the rebellion against God has been mentioned, and the intrusion of evil in man's life has also been referred to.

The origin of man is nothing but some clay, and is not worthy of of mention. But when fashioned by God's creative power and skill, particularly when breathed in him of his SPIRIT, the dignity and position of Man changed to a much higher levelِhigher than that of almost all the creatures, including the angels and Jinns:-

``So all the angels prostrated themselves for man, except Iblis, who showed pride and became a disbeliever.''

Satan's refusal came from his pride, arrogance, and self-love. We therefore my conclude that pride is the root and mother of evil, that may end in being cursed by God:

``Allah said:- ``O, Iblis! What did prevent you to prostrate yourself for what I created with my own hand? Was it your pride or your thinking too much of yourself!?''

In answer to his Creator, Satan said:- ``I am better than him, because you have created me from Fire, and him from clay!''

For his objection and refusal, Satan was discharged and cursed by our Creator, and was lowered from the high position he had.

As a reward of his previous worship and long record of services, he asked his Lord to give him a long respite, up to the Day of Doom. However God did not comply with his whole request, and gave him a respite up to a certain time of a dayِhow long? God knows that.

The verse No.81; ``Up to a certain time of a day'', implies that the respite was not given him for the period up to Day of Doom. His agreed respite is a period definitely limited. This is while man's probation time on the earth is up to the Resurrection Day, when a new creation will replace the present world.

When he made sure that he would not die so soon, he swore by God's Glory to seduce all mankind except those who are sincere servants among them.

Satan was cursed and turned to an outlaw in the kingdom of God. Satanic temptations have no power over the sincere servants and worshippers of God.

During his probation on earth, Satanic allurements will help man to recognize his limited free-will and to enhance his faculty of distinguishing and choosing between good and bad.

Excepting the sincere servants of God from being trapped by Satanic allurements, imply that Satan's power can only be effective in a realm permitted to operate by God; and it is in compliance with God's universal plan, and therefore it cannot harm the sincere worshippers of God.
