Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verse 45Verses 1-10

The last verse of this chapter (NO.45) gives an end to the threatening arguments of the previous verses, by a mention of God's Infinite Grace and Limitless Mercy.

A question could have been raised here that; if God's wont and methodical way is not changeable, why then there are so many oppressors living on the earth sound and safe? Why are the polytheists and non-believers not punished and utterly perished? The answer is in this verse:-

``If Allah was to question and punish people for whatever they earn, no creature or creeper would be left upon the earth unpunished and not perished.'' In other word; no one can attain felicity or obtain salvation by his own effort, if the Grace of God supports him not.

On the other hand, all the people on the earth are not sinners and guilty. We already have read in the verse NO.33 above that;-

``Among them were some who oppressed themselves, and of them were moderates. There also are some of the people who vie with each other in doing good deeds by the leave of Allahِthat is the Supreme Grace.''

The problem is that when a calamity arrives out of a sudden, it may affect the guilty and the guiltless both!

In such cases when a blazing fire is inflamed, it will burn out the dry firewood as well as the wet ones. The guilty will burn because of his guilt, and the guiltless will burn because he could prevent the fire to be kindled, but he did not proceed. One person may dig a hole in the ship, but all the crew will drown.

The ending of the verse implies that God's respite is not some sort of a negligence or ignorance. It rather is a part of His Infinite Grace and continuous Mercy, and that He Has always His servants in His sight.

In other word, no one can escape God's Omnipresent sight and eye. God's justice is always mingled with Mercy because His Mercy always precedes His wrath.
