Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 71-76Verses 77-79

The argument turns about Monotheism an Polytheism once again:-

``Do they not see that We have created for them the cattle that our hands wrought, and they own it?''

In first of the above verses, the immediate reference is to the domesticated animals and so many uses of Man of them. While they are created by the hand of power of the Merciful God, and subjected to Man by Him, Man think that he really owns them:-

``And We subjected them to you and tamed them for you so that you can ride themِeat and drink of them, and use them as your carrier.''

What a thing can we look at round about in which there are no signs of our Lord? Why a camel so large, an elephant so powerful, a horse so fast, and a cow so useful; who can crush us with a kick, should be subjected to us more than an obedient servantِthey obey even a little boy of us!! Was it our skill that tamed them, or God's Merciful Plan? Why should man so easily ride themِmilk themِeat them, and wear on their skins and wool, without any harm and difficulty!?

This, and so many other uses that we make of them, and yet we give no thank as if we really have created them and own them. Suppose it is their duty to be so, as per order of God, but answer justlyِdo we not have any duty to perform as per order of our Creator!?

In the next verse the condition of the polytheists has been pointed to:-

``They have taken deities apart from Allah, that they might be helped; but they have not the ability to help them, and the worshippers of the false gods shall be presented to the Fire.''

Both, the worshipper and the worshipped, are the hosts of one another, yet they cannot help each other, and both parties have to be presented to court of justice, in the Final Judgement of God.

Allah has conferred uncountable blessings on man, and yet he turns face from the source of all good; and associates with Allah in his worship false deities! What on earth can an idol do for an idolater, and even their deified menِwhat can they do when their worshippers are afflicted in a critical situation, or when they are in an emergency case!? They might expect a help of them either in this world or in the life to come, but instead of helping them they contribute to their damnation.

Finally, God instructs His apostle (V.No.76):-

``Let not their word grieve you, because We know best what do they hide, and what do they reveal.''
