Another flimsy excuse of the pagans, for their apparent rejection of faith, was due to their tender love for the material living, with so much of its hardships that they had to suffer in those deadly desert life. They said to our compassionate prophet:-
``Our tribe is so weak that as soon as we declare our conversion, the idolaters will snatch us away and easily destroy us.'' In answer to this Qurän says:-
``Do they not see that We have made a secure sanctum and people are snatched away from around them.''
The verse implies that Allah has made a safe, secure, and quiet, island in the middle of a stormy, turbulent sea, with violent waves! So was the society of Arabs, a little away from the Secred Territory (HARAM) of Mecca during the Pagan Era.
Although the general application of the verse holds good for all times and places, the immediate reference here is to the Sanctum of Kaabeh in Mecca. The Sacred Territory which is called HARAM, has always been held safe and secure from all sorts of intrusion, while some 20 miles away from HARAM, bloody and dreadful wars was wedged for something trifle, and of no value or importance.
To make it short, the Lord God who has kept a small piece of land in a vast wild Peninsula, with a semisavage population, who buried alive their daughters, or sacrificed them to idols, so much safe and secure from all sorts of trouble, can easily look after His believer servants and protect them from all Hazards.
The last verse (NO.69) will sum up the whole discussions of the Chapter. (SPIDER)
It implies that though travelling and emigration in the way of God may involve encounter with many kinds of difficulties, such as the lack of necessary knowledge, Satanic Temptations, Resistance and rush of enemies, possible stumbles in the way, and other kinds of hazards; the traveller has indeed the consolation of God's promise that:-
``Those who strive in us, We will guide them to find our way, and Allah is with the good-doers.''
As to the meaning of strive in us, both the words, (``strive'' and ``in us'') have their common meaning. But the value of work or an act will depend on the intention and purpose of the doer of the work. Whatever that a man does of deeds that are reasonable and are done with a good intention for the sake of God, can be counted as strive in Allah and reckoned as His worship.
In other word, JIHÄD or strive is not restricted to a sacred war for the cause of Allah. It can be in all the fields of life, such as knowledge, culture, politics, economy, and military affairs:- ``And Allah is with the good doers.''
