Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 41-44Verses 45-48

``We have sent down the Book to you for people in truth.''

Although the holy Qurän was revealed to our prophet alone, it was revealed for all Mankind; in order to teach them the righteousness and truth. The Book is all truth and those who reject the truth and follow the falsehood, the loss will be theirs.

Then the reference is to the mystery of life and death which are the twin-brothers of wakefulness and sleep, about which man does not have enough information. Both, the life and death are in the hand of God, and no one can die unless God wills. Man's knowledge is not much in this regard. A great amount of imaginative and psychological literature has been piled up, most of which are far from the truth.

Some scholars believe that during our sleep, the blood circulation is slow in the brain and fast in other parts of the body.

Some of them think that our daily toil and endeavours create some sort of a poisonous material that will affect our nervous system, and we fall asleep.

Some other are of opinion that, a certain part of our brain stops working when we go to sleep.

That which prevents man from reaching a proper stage in this field, is Man's materialistic ideas and thoughts. What it seems to be right is that, in death we give up our physical body, but our soul and all its contents, which includes all our knowledge, and even the recorded reports of our deeds will continue to abide, in a world where there is neither time nor space.

This fact is proved by our dreams when we sleep at night. When asleep, we forget our physical body as well as the time and place, when

and where we slept. Then our nervous system will stop working, but other animal functions such as the blood circulation, digestion, and growth, will continue.

In our dream without our physical body, we feel that we do have a body, and we have a life in which there is movement and repose, joy and sorrow, confidence and fear, travel and rest, and all that of which we have some physical experience.

In our dream we sometimes see things as they actually happen in future or have happened in the past. This is a sign that there is no time or space in our dream. It seems that our soul is then in a plane of spiritual existence akin to our physical death.

Sleep has been said to be the, ``twin-brother of death'' in which our soul is temporarily taken by God, and it is released from the bondage of our body. So our body is not the whole being of us. Our sleep and awakening prove that, death does not end our personality.

Then in the ending of the passage the reference is to the problem of, ``Intercession''. The idolaters used to say that their idols would intercede on their behalf with God:-

``Say:- Intercession belongs wholly to Allah.''
