Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 4-6Verses 7-8

In the Pagan Era, there was an Arab whose name was, ``JAMIL-IBN-MOAMAR''. He had a strong memory, and claimed that there were two hearts within his chest; and he could apprehend with each one of his hearts more than Mohammad could. He had therefore the title of, the man with two hearts. (ZUL-GHALBAIN)

In the Battle of Badr he was seen to have escaped in a panic, with one shoe on, and other odd shoe he kept by hand! When he was asked:- ``Why do you have one foot bare, and one odd shoe in your hand'' He became aware how funny he was, and he confessed that he thought he had his shoes on!

This was why the aforementioned verses, enjoined the prophet and the believers to follow the inspirations and not the non-believers and hypocrites, who had nothing to teach except superstitions and futiles:-

``Allah has not made two hearts for a man within him....''

This verse also implies that Man has no more than one single heart, which can contain not the love for two separate deities.

Having two hearts in one chest, is against the nature of man and God's law. Having one heart and two sweet-hearts has turned to a proverb, and it is not easy to love two women, or two loved with an equal love. This is some sort of pretending one thing, and intending another. How can we love God and have faith in Him, and meanwhile love an enemy of God!?

Then reference is made to another superstition of the Pagan Era, which existed as a main source of problems and troubles for women. This was what the Arabs called it, ``ZIHÄR''.

ZIHÄR was a cruel Arabic custom, that a husband would, and could, declare his wife to be as his mother! By that announcement he easily would deprive his wife of all the marriage rights, and yet selfishly kept her tied to himself like a slave without freedom to marry another man.

Then mention is made of the third superstition of the Pagan Arabs which Islam came and wound it up, and that was the problems of their adopted sons. They used to adopt a little boy unknown or known by parent, for their son. They brought him up, and in all aspects and respects, considered him as their own and real son:-

``God has not made your adopted sons, your real sons....''

The truth is truth, and the false is false, and an adopted son cannot be a true and real son of a father or a mother. Therefore it is not unlawful for a man to marry the widow of his adopted son, but he can never marry his real daughter in-law, in the sight of Islam; i.e. the widow of his real son.

In the last verse (NO.6) there is another commandment that:-

``The prophet's wives are as mothers to the believers.''

This commandment applies to the prophet's wives only with respect to marriage. In the verse (NO.52) of the same chapter, it is strictly made unlawful for Moslem to marry one of the prophet's wives. We hope to expound this matter in its proper place, when we come to the said verse.

According to Qurän there are three mothers for a believer to respect, and to take care of them:- 1ِHis or her mother who gave birth to him or her. 2ِHis foster-mother who has suckled him or her, if any. And; 3ِThe wives of the prophet too are the believer's spiritual mothers, whom no believer could marry after our prophet.
