The reference here is to the unwise reactions of the Pagan Arabs, to their prophet's call, and rehearsal of Quranic Verses.

      They were saying:- ``This man wants to prevent us from our forefathers cult and customs. He is a sorcerer and we must be careful about his sorcery. His claim of inspiration is nothing more than a calumny or lie that he has forged'', and they added many unwise assertions of this kind.

      The Pagan Arabs who were contemporary to our prophet, worshipped their idols on account of their ancestral cults. They rejected our prophet at first, simply because his teaching did not agree with their ancestor's cult. In their rejection of the truth that was sent through inspiration to Mohammad (SA), their reasoning was very ridiculous:- There is no such a thing as inspiration because our forefathers have not told us anything about it, This is nothing except a calumny which has been forged.

      In fact, they made a shield of their ancestral heritage of cult and custom, against the rush of the new religion; saying that Mohammad wants only to bar us from treading our ancestors proven and paved path.

      As to the wonders of the truth that was brought by our prophet, and its effects in the hearts of so many converts; their justification was to interpret it as magic and sorcery:-

      ``...And those who disbelieved the truth when it came to them said:- ``This is nothing except a plain magic.''

      Then in the last verse (NO.45) reference is made to the past important nations, whose wealth and welfare, were many times more than the Pagan Arabs of Quraish, and yet when they rejected faith and fell into sin and sinning, they were so painfully punished that only a by-word of them was left to be heard.
