Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 30-32Verses 33-36

Here the argument moves on the monotheistic nature of Man, which is deposited in his innerself and soul, as a creed:-

``Then hold your face towards the pure religion of God, the creed, on the basis of which Man has been created. It is the unchangeable standard religion of God, although most of people know it not.''

By, ``FACE'' here, the whole innerself, and the mind is meant; and not only the face alone.

The verse implies that we should always fix our mind, and attention to the standard religion of God, which is a pure monotheistic creed, and void of any crookedness and complexity, and that is Islam; which is mere submission to the will of Allah.

In the verse, it is emphasized that the ``HANIF'' religion, is having pure and sincere faith in the only one true God, and being free from allsorts of polytheism, and extraneous false gods and fetishes. Such a natural religion will never change in the sight of God, even if people do not pay heed to it. There is always one God and the same, and His religion too is always one and the same.

This is why we say that Islamic instructions and commandments conform, and is in well harmony with man's nature and instincts.

In other word; when Man is created, his natural creed is to be good, truthful, virtuous, and inclined to know more, and love God the better. Then his parent lead him to their own religion of whatever they believe, true or false. He thus becomes a nominal Moslem, Jew, or Christian. After that he may lose the way and fall into the snares of social customs, superstitions, and the lagoon of false teaching, and worst of all his own caprices and desires. He thus strays from the path of truth, which consists of the worship of the only one true God, and the love of his fellow creatures for the sake of God.

Divine teachers have been sent to cure their deviation from rectitude, and to restore their human nature, by the direction of inspiration from God. They all teach Man the natural creed of Man, which is the standard religion of God, the loved Creator.

The ending of the next verse, (NO.31) is:-

      ``....be not of the polytheists.''

A clear mark of polytheism is dispersion and breaking apart, and going the ways to different directions:-

``And of those who split up their religion and became sects, each party rejoicing with what is with them.''

Wonderful enough that in spite of all their conflicts and variance of opinions, each sect thinks to be the right one, and the elect of God, and never asks; ``What of the others?'' They all rejoice in what is with them.

But we must know that; disunion, conflict, and dispersion, are clear signs of polytheism. A polytheist is always sick of such diseases; as pride, selfish desires, vain desire, jealousy and etc. Such diseases cannot be cured except by the worship of God, with sincere submission to His will, and adhering to wisdom and humility.
