Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 15-18Verses 19-23

One may ask why should God insist on Man's worshipping Him, when He is free of all wants!

The following verse consists of the answer:-

``O, People! You are all in need of Allah, and it is Allah Who is free of all wants, and Praiseworthy.''

Yes! Our Lord is absolutely free of all kinds of wants, and He is the Only one True Self-sufficient Being, who depends only on Himself. He is also the only True Praiseworthy that all praises will return to Him for being the only Main source, Creator, Protector, Sustainer, and the Lord of all things and all creatures. So He deserves, and it is His right, to be praised for anything that might be admirable and praiseworthy. Therefore those men who celebrate His praise and glorify Him through their worship, are in fact performing their natural duty, and fulfil their obligation, and it may help to promote them and to develop them in their Infinite way of Evolution. Not only Man, but every creature is dependent upon Creator in all aspects and respects of its existence, and is always in need of God to care for himِto sustain himِto guide himِand to protect him.

On the other hand God has no need of Man or of any other creature lower or higher. But He is substantially free of want, dependent on Himself, and He is All-mercy All-grace, and full of a loving kindness for all His creatures.

For short; we may say that:- ``God is substantially mere goodness and pure mercy.''

Therefore He is full of a loving kindness for all His creatures, much more than a mother for her children. The next verse puts an stress (NO.16) on Man's need to emphasize our poverty and God's being free of want, and All-power and might:-

``If He will, He can take you off, and come with a new creation.''

Allah, in His creative power can do everything, and anything that may seem to us unusual. For instance, He can easily destroy one generation and take away all a nation collectively or individually, and bring an entirely different or new generation in their place. Many instances of this has been found throughout the history of Man.

And finally the reference is made to Man's personal responsibility (NO.18), and that everyone has to answer for his own deeds:-

``And no sinner will bear the burden of another sinner...''

In the spiritual matters everyone is held in pledge of his own deed, and the responsibilities are strictly personal. So no sinner will carry a part of the sins or the load of another sinner.

If it is narrated that misleaders will bear the burden of the misled, along with their own load of sin, we should know that both of the loads belong to themselves, and not to the othersِtheir original sin and the sin of misleading another, both accrue of their own deeds and are loaded on their own shoulders; and hence no one will ever bear the burden of another in this regard.
