Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 05)
Verses 22-27Verses 28-30

In this passage the polytheists are questioned by knocking down inquiries, which proves their ideas to be false about the idols and their intercession with God.

The Arab idolaters used to say that, our idols will intercede with Allah, on behalf of us; but they lied, because if there is any intercession with Allah, it can only be valid by Allah's permission. On the other hand, what kind of an intercession can be needed, when God's judgement is so just, and so right!

In these verses, the prophet has been addressed for five times, with the interrogatory expression which begins with the word, ``SAY'', which implies, ``TELL THEM WHY''

Here the verb, ``SAY'' has been used in an imperative mood, in the verses 22ِ24ِ25ِ26 and 27.

In verse NO.22, the unity of God has clearly been explained. In verse NO.24, we apprehend the Infinite Mercy of Allah. Man's personal responsibility has been pointed to, in NO.25. In verse NO.26 we come to know the Final justice and Judgement of God, which is an incident of Dooms Day. And in verse No.27-God's Power and Wisdom has been alluded to.

Wisdom and power belongs to God and come from God. So if we put our trust upon anything other than God, they will fail us, and can do nothing for us, for, they do not depend on themselves.

If the idols and the false gods and fetishes that they associate with Allah, were of any use, they should have something of their own in the heavens and earth independently. Or at least they would have a share in creation, or could give a hand of help to the true Creator of the universe.

False godsِthe objects of worship, whatever or whoever they might be other than God, own nothing in the heavens and earth, and cannot affect our physical or spiritual life, unless the true God Who is our real Creator may intend something else.

It is also blasphemous to suppose that they have some share in godship or can give a hand of some help to the Only one true God.

If we study the above passage with more precision, we come to know that the secrets of penetration in the hearts of other people who are in a conflict with us, have been revealed and instructed here very clearly. The above verses will teach us how to behave and how to argue, and how to attract the attention of our opponents, and even how to overcome them and excel them in reasoning.

Such instructions and lessons that we may take from the above verses are in brief as follows:-

1ِBelieve in what you are saying to the others yourself.

2ِYour object in disputes, must be the truth, and not to overcome.

3ِYou should never despise your opponents.

4ِWhat you say should be based on sympathy, compassions and not on selfishness.

5ِYou must speak politely and respect your opponent.

6ِAvoid being stubborn, sturdy, and obstinate.

      7ِNever leave justice away.

8ِDo not try to impose your thought and idea upon the other. You should make him to apprehend what you mean, and do your best to satisfy him.

All the above virtues can be deduced and concluded from the above verses.
