The ConclusionThe doubts of those who deny physical resurrection

Can the physical resurrection of this body be proven through intellectual arguments?

Some object and say that we have no intellectual proof about it.

It is just like there is no proof for denial too. Since there is no proof about it being impossible the witness of the Qura’n and the Sunnah are proof enough and no other excuse or interpretation is needed. (1) In other words the intellectual proofs are unable to reach the core of the matter and we learn about the proofs that are recorded then we have no other recourse but to accept them.

Some people however, consider the physical resurrection to be compatible to intellectual arguments. They say that the soul develops with the human body and reaches it glory in the same form. There is a close relation between the soul and body and their conditions are reflected on each other. The physical pains affect the soul and the spiritual pains leave their mark on the human physique. Their ease and peace are interlinked and affect each other.

The soul and the body are friends and develop together.

There is no doubt that death severs the link between the body and the soul but to be rewarded and punished it is necessary that they be reunited to be presented in the Highest court and so that the soul regains its real position, fly with it and enjoy the physical and spiritual gives of the world or taste the pain of its hardships and punishments.

In short they are incomplete without each other and the complete resurrection cannot be fulfilled with them both.

It is correct to assume that center of all pleasures and pains is the soul but we know that the soul obtains some of its pleasures through the body and if there is no link between them then a big portion of the pleasures and pain will be destroyed.

Human intelligence says that they should be united in the hereafter just as they were united in this world because they are incomplete without each other (Reflect)

1. Allama Majlisi writes in Behar-ol-Anwar: the physical resurrection is one of the things that all religions are agreeable about and is regarded as one of the necessities of religion. Any one who denies this cannot be considered as a Muslim. The verses of the Qura’n are very clear about it and not worth making excuses so are the traditions that cannot be denied. Behar-ol-anwar vol. 7 page 47.
