The educative effect of resurrection in Hadith and traditionIntroduction

The belief in the life after death is not only affective in the culturing of the soul, purity of the heart, nurturing of culture and cleansing of the deeds but is also very effective for the human health, and well being.

We know that the important thing because of which a person goes through the various stages of pain and sufferings and which sours the sweetness of human life, shattering the human body is the presence of various hardships that encircles a person’s life.

The regret about having wasted past opportunities and the resultant losses, the future, and the end of human life with the pain of separation from friends, relative’s children wealth and the human strength and various unforeseen events destroy the peace in life like a great hurricane.

Donald Light a famous teacher of sociology in the Princeton University says:

“At present there are at-least a million people in the USA who have attempted suicide and no great result has come forth despite the efforts made by various organizations who work to dispel such situations. These are the persons who are affected by the hopelessness of the situation and the meaningless of life and subjected to the crises created by uneasiness and collective worries, so they contemplate suicide and this phobia is incurable despite all the help available. (1)

Though our term in history is that of peace and the hardships of the past have declined.

The burden has shifted from human shoulders to the chimneys of the great factories. The difficult work inside the home has also been taken over the electrical implements. The houses are fitted with all modern amenities. The facilities for conveyance and transportation have been standardized and simplified. The tedious journeys of the past have become recreation trips. The modern human life has changed to bright colors with all the latest facilities and developments.

In such a near perfect condition it is expected that the human life would be full of ease and comfort but what we evince is that he is more troubled and his chased by unease from all sides.

The percentage of psychiatric patients has climbed steadily and suicide cases are becoming common. The number of people resorting to alcohol and drugs for peace has increased more than four folds.

The main cause behind all this is the aimless and purposelessness of life. There is a fear of not finding any solace or support in case of extreme hardships. The terrifying face of death is the main cause of fear of personal and collective future. Indeed only the belief in the hereafter and the life spent in calmness and just actions can destroy this state of insecurity.

Professor Jung was one of the close associates of Sigmund Freud and he said:

“Two thirds of those patients who contact me from all over the world are those who are educated, well to do and successful but they are despondent because of the aimlessness of life. The reason is that man in the 20th century has lost the belief in religion due to technological advancement, bias, and bigotry and is bewilderingly searching for his soul. He will not find peace till he attains religion because atheism is the cause of the decadence and aimlessness of life. (2)

Let us return to the Qura’n and seek its help. Verses 62 to 64 of Surah Yunus speak about this very subtly. The Book says:

“Behold! Verily the friends of God shall have no fear nor shall they grieve. Those who believe and (constantly) guard against evil; for them are the glad tidings in the present life and in the hereafter.”

These are the people who have whole heartedly attached themselves to God and His vast authority and they consider this worldly life to be a passage before the life in the hereafter.

This is the reason that they do not feel isolated or feel life to be uncertain. Though many points remain to be discussed in this regard but we end the discussion about the effect of the belief on the Day of Reckoning on individual and collective human life.
