The Approaching DayThe Painful Day

This term has been used twice in the Qura’n once in verse 9 of Surah Muddaththir and in verse 26 of Surah Furqan.

 1. Truly the day will be a Hard Day.

 2. It will be a hard day for the disbelievers

Once the word “A’sir” has been used also.

Verse 8 of Surah Qamar says, “The disbelievers will say, “This is a very hard day.”(1)

Indeed that day will be a very powerful day full of hardships and terrorizing so much so that even the strongest among them will give in and will helpless, despondent and weak.

Fakhruddin Razi writes in his commentary:

“The day will be very severe on the disbelievers because the accounts will be taken very strictly from them and their book of deeds will be put in their left hands. Their faces will be blackened; their bodies blue and their eyes will be sightless. The limbs of their bodies will give witness against and in front of them and this will be cause of shame.”(2)

This will be the situation at the gathering and then will come the more severe hardships when they will be dragged to Hell. They will be subjected to various kinds of punishments and will face the fire of the wrath of God. Giving their full accounts will be unthinkable for it will be very hard to bear even the least punishment.
