The materialists claim that the soul and thoughts etc are all material or the physical and chemical attributes of the brain and limbs. They have placed certain arguments to prove their point and we will now discuss them.

It can be proven that in case of mental or physical disorder the soul too remains no more. (1)

It has been experimented for example that a pigeon does not die even its brain is damaged a little but loses many of its memory. It eats if fed and also digests, but will die if the food is strewn before it but will not eat.

In the same way some parts of the human brain cease to function because of damage or harm inflicted upon it and the person loses his memory.

A newspaper once reported that an educated young man lost his memory because of an accident and forgot his past so much so that he could not even recognize his mother and sister.

When he was taken to the house he had lived in all this time the house was something new to him.

We learn from this incident and similar ones that there is a close link between the physical actions of the brain and the manifestation of the soul.

The physical changes occur more in the brain when we think. The brain absorbs more food and discards more refuse. In sleep when the brain does not think then the food it absorbs is less and this is the proof of the thoughts being material.

If the ability to think is presumed as the manifestation of the soul then we should accept it for the animals also because they too understand and think. (2)

In short, they say, we feel that the soul has no permanent existence and this is also proven by the experiments being done in physiology.

They conclude from all this that the development of human and animal physiology proves that there is a close link between the neurons of the brain and the manifestation of the soul.
