The Known Day The Day of Rising

This name too can be seen only once in the Qura’n in verse 10 of Surah Insaan (1):

“Surely we dread from our Lord a stern day of distress”

It should be noted that the word “Abos” is a human attribute that means a face that shows disdain. This explanation is because of the horrifying events of the day. The events of that day will be so painful that not only human beings but even the day will have an unpleasant contour.

To most commentators the word “Qamtarir” means hard and severe or a person who is horrified and angry so the meaning is closer to “Abos”. This has been derived from “Qutr” and the “Mim” is extra. The other opinion is that it has been taken from Qamtar.

Anyway this change signifies that the events of that day will be so hard, painful and tough that their affects will instilled inside and man and can be seen on the faces.

Everyone will be terrified and engulfed in despair because no one will know his fate and they will all wait for the benevolence of God.

Some commentators have said: Praise is for God how hard and severe in the name of God and the day is more severe still.

1. We know that this Surah is about Hazrat Ali, Fatima, and Hasan and Husain who are the leaders of Abrar.
