Purgatory in the traditionsPurgatory, as the Ulema see it

This issue of an interim world of purgatory between the hereafter and this world can be understood by the human intellect through feelings. They tell us about the existence of the soul without its confinement in the human body and this is enough proof about purgatory. The soul is not destroyed or dead after the death of the body. Since this body is not its cause so it cannot die with the death of the body but it is an entity of its own which exists without the body. To accept this is to accept purgatory. Since the discussion is mainly on the world of purgatory and not about it being spiritual.

The idea of connection with the spiritual world is an accepted matter among the Ulema.

And this tells us that that the souls after separating from the body exist in another world all by themselves and they have a vast sense of understanding. They sometimes transfer their knowledge to some people of this world.

There are many people who have received messages from the departed souls and there are many who claim that have seen them as visionary images by their own eyes. We do not say that all of them are truthful because the liars the charlatans and greedy people have gained a lot from such ideas but this does not mean that we should discard such an issue which needs scientific research or that we deny this totally. Many a reliable persons have narrated their experiences about it and many a researcher and knowledgeable people have written books about it. So there is no scope for denying this issue. The matter will become very lengthy if we try to explain even a part of this issue (1). The world of purgatory can be proven through this also.

1. God confiscates the soul at the time of death and those who are not destined to die remain in sleep to rise again.
