The Day of Severity The Promised Day of Resurrection

This name has come twice in the Qura’n though the word “Aleem” can be seen many times to be describing the torments of the Day of Reckoning in various chapters. It has been used once through the lips of Hazrat Nooh when he addressed his idolatrous people in verse 26 of Surah HUD:

“I fear for you the torment of a painful day.”

The second time it was mentioned as a revelation of God in verse 65 of Surah Zukhruf that says:

“Woe to those who do wrong from the torment of a painful day.”

This day has not been declared as a painful day because of the severe torment but it has many other kinds of hurt and pain in the sense of infamy, regret, remorse and other spiritual torments.

Man will see that others have entered Paradise because of him but he has been condemned to Hell. It will also be painful in the sense that their will be no scope for repentance and reform and so the torment will be ever-lasting.

The point that needs our attention is that in the above two verses one speaks about the hypocrites and the second about the perpetrators of injustice and we know that polytheism is an injustice while oppression is also an infamous cause of polytheism.
