The first verse is about the times of Moses and the Pharaoh and the words are from God who refers to the earth mentioned in the previous verse and says:

“We created you from the earth to into it shall We return you, and from it shall We bring you out once again.”

The origin of all of us was clay or earth; we are all from Adam and he was made of clay, the entire things used from which we get and develop our flesh and bones come from earth (either from the plants or from the animals who feed on the plants).

We will all revert to the earth and our Qiyamah too will from earth and this is a living example and proof of resurrection.

This verse is the answer for those who believe the resurrection to be impossible and say, how can the bodies decayed and turned to dust live again? They were ignorant of the fact that originally they were all clay. Secondly it speaks about the Pharaoh and the rebellious companions. It warns the proud and vain people that they should know that in the beginning they were all dust and clay and they will all return to it and they be raised again from it to be presented to God. A little pondering is enough for man about it for it will destroy his vanity and will bring out the truth to him so that his soul may accept it.

The second verse is about the apostle Noah where he speaks and likens mankind to plants that grow from earth.

“And god has created you from earth.18 In the end He will return you to it and then bring you forth from it (On Judgment Day).” (1)

The use of the word “Anbat” (to grow) is a very profound reference which tells us that the laws governing mankind and plants are very similar.

The work of God for mankind is not just that of a teacher but resembles the work of gardener more. He sows the seeds in favorable conditions, and waters them so that their hidden qualities come to the fore.

Only those plants that get nurtured have the right to live, those who are green and contain the flowers and fruits within them, those who give shade or else they will be like the dry wood that can be used to burn only and the same is the condition of man.

This verse is a bright example of physical resurrection because it says, “You will return to earth and will come out from it. You were earth or clay in the beginning and will rise from it only.

The 3rd verse speaks of Eve the wife of Adam and their progeny. It is said:

“therein you shall live and therein you shall die and from it you shall be brought out.”

The term “You will be brought out” (from earth) is also a bright example of resurrection and life after death and it cannot be attributed in any sense to spiritual or semi- physical resurrection.

We learn that the issue of physical resurrection was subject to discussion from the time of Adam and was not just raised in the Day of the Last Messenger and the revelation of the Qura’n.

1. The verse should have used the word “Anbatan” which is the origin of the verb Anbatakum but some according to commentators it is actually: Anbatanbatakum min al Arzi fanabattum nabatan” or anbatakum minal Arzi Inbatan Nabati” Tafsir Kabeer, Ruhul Jinan and Al Mizan.
